We've only gone and finally bought some Bordeaux.

To be honest it's not actually the first we've had in four years of business but it's pretty much the first we've got properly excited about. You may think that's a bit slow but then the Bordeaux region has been remarkably slow on the uptake when it comes to organic viticulture and low intervention winemaking. Vested interests blocking change?

It takes characters like Damien Lorteau and his parents to be brave, step outside the mainstrean and breathe life (literally soil life) into their pocket of the right bank near Blaye. Damien returned to his parents vineyards after adventuring around the world, making wine working with progressive growers in Spain, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, the US as well as closer to home in Burgundy and the Rhône.

Pirouette from Château Les Vieux Moulins is a blend of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grown on two distinct parcels, both farmed organically but with very different soil types. Damien uses no sulphur during vinification, just a dash at bottling and follows lunar cycles to carry out vineyard and winery work. The wine is distinctly Bordeaux but with lovely depth, life and vitality.
At last a Bordeaux to get excited about and one that doesn't cost a King's ransom too!
