Domaine La Calmette, Trespotz, Cahors, France

Domaine Calmette is a great example of the kind of producers we love to work with. While they farm organically and biodynamically and make wine in a low intervention manner, which may be perceived by some as just avoiding work, what it actually means when it is done well is working a lot and staying acutely aware of the impact of everything that is done in both the vineyard, surrounding land and in the winery. The results are wines that are full of energy, balanced and very drinkable - naturally delicious.

This is a blend of Malbec and Merlot from Cahors in south west France, the Malbec Mothership.

‘Trespotz’ is the name of their village in Occitan (ancient local language still spoken today). The wine features grapes from all their parcels and from all soils present in the village. Trespotz means ‘Trois Puits’ or ‘Three Wells,’ which has been a distinguishing feature and a huge asset of this unusual village since Roman times.  

Herbal, violets, soft, integrated tannins. A fantastic wine to enjoy with the local food, quality cheeses and good friends.
