'Metic' is an Ancient Greek term for a foreigner living in Athens, someone who contributed to the cultural and economic life but did not have the same rights as a true citizen. Inspired by the famous song 'Le Métèque' by Georges Moustaki, Luca Hodgkinson, a French/Spanish/English expat who also consults for many wineries in Chile, has created a range of wines under the Metic label using grapes sourced from sustainably and organically managed vineyards and made with minimal intervention in the winery.

This Cabernet Sauvignon is from 120 year old vines growing on sandy, clay soils in the Colchagua Valley.  Twice a year they use a very old school but effective flooding technique to irrigate the vineyard. The clay content retains this moisture which enables the vines to survive in such tough conditions. Grapes are hand harvested and fermentation occurs with wild yeasts in concrete vats. The wine is lightly filtered but unfined and only has a touch of sulphur.

The result is a full bodied black fruit bomb with a little spice and leather and a balanced and smooth finish. As an 'outsider' in Chile, Luca has used his skill, experience and connections to make something exceptional.
